GFS joined Pulce racing at the final UK round of the Trofeo Abarth 500 GB
GFS continued our support of Pulce Racing at the final UK Round of the Trofeo Abarth 500 GB at Brands Hatch. The GFS logo was prominently displayed on the Abarth 500 driven by Denmark’s Benny Simonsen. The cars reached speeds in excess of 120 mph on the tight Indy circuit.
GFS staff and eighteen customers enjoyed the hospitality of the Pulce racing team where they were able to meet Benny and see the car along with other race teams from the DTM (German Touring Cars) and the VW Scirocco Cup. Many photo opportunities were had and the food and drinks at the Abarth Hospitality tent were enjoyed by all.
Celebrity spots over the weekend included TV presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson (whose brother Charlie races in the Trofeo 500), former F1 drivers including 1996 World Champion Damon Hill, ex-British F1 drivers Martin Brundle, Johnny Herbert & Mark Blundell and finally the five times Le Mans winner, Derek Bell.
As well as the Trofeo Abarth there was exciting racing from the DTM including the new to DTM driver David Coulthard and brother of Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher both former F1 stars in their own right. The DTM’s eventual winner Paul Di Resta moved into second place in the series after a dominating performance.
First place in the Trofeo Abarth race went to Stefan Hodgetts with Ben Winrow on the second step of the podium. Unfortunately for Pulce Racing and Benny Simonsen, Benny’s race ended early on the second lap due to a failed radiator hose, a problem which affected several teams over the weekend. Benny’s car was not the only car Pulce’s mechanics had to face. After the Saturday race both team cars required attention with one requiring the cylinder head to be completely rebuilt on the Sunday.
The next race of the Trofeo Abarth championship is at Monza in Italy on 23/24 October. GFS are considering sponsoring the team next year and wish the Pulce racing team good luck in the final part of the championship.
Date added 13th September 2010.
